If You’re Invited to a Party, What do You do?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

A social blow out you say?  What are you going to bring?  This may not make you the king of the ball, but it’s a something.

Everyone has a clue that you are expected to bring a gift to a house warming party, don’t you?  If you’re like me, you didn’t even consider an offering until you get to the party.  How can this be?

I know it’s difficult to think of everything, but think of the person hosting a party, housewarming, or social even.  One of the most appropriate to make the party giver feel special is to offer a gift.  A lot of people bring wine, or liquor to a social gathering, but depending on the event, it’s not always the best choice. Another way to go would be to bring some high end, gourmet coffee, preferably Fair Trade organic coffee.  Making an exotic fruit drink from locally grown produce is always a great!  If you’re still in thinking about finding the perfect beverage gift, you may want to consider fruit teas.  Almost everyone loves fruit teas.  There are so many flavors out there, that the skies the limit.  Right now, Constant Comment Raspberry is making it’s way into every batch of iced tea that I create.

Obviously, we’ve covered drinks, so lets move on to food.  Chips and salsa are always a crowd pleaser.  You’ve got salty crunch and spicy goodness.  What’s not to like?  Don’t just bring everything in a brown paper bag.  Think artistic presentation!  You can get a colorful, plastic platter, for very little money.  It will make all the difference in the world.  If you ever see a good deal on serving dishes, stock up for later.  It’s always a good idea to give a thank you card with a note saying “please keep the tray.”

If you don’t like the idea of food or drink you may want to consider bringing flowers, a gift basket, or a potted plant.  It is always best to avoid strong drink, pictures of yourselves (unless you are attending a family event), and work related items.  Finally, don’t forget to enclose your card!  You do want credit for your wonderful gift, don’t you?

If you’re still not sure what to bring to an event, then may I suggest that you consider http://www.NectarOfLife.com for a coffee gift basket?  Nectar of Life is a gourmet coffee roaster that specializes in organic coffee.

Do You Have a Clue What Your Woman Wants?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

This summary is written by a woman to let men understand how to shop for a lady.

Something happens to men when they go to a mall. Women become stoked and love the thrill of the hunt. Men on the other hand would rather walk in with a specific store list, map, and the nearest escape route (preferably to a bar). It’s a rather castrating experience for them. It’s like reading all the books in a law library!

At this point men, just chill out and grab a cup of gourmet coffee and read on!

A little hint to you girls, if you have something in mind write it down and paste it to your man’s forehead! Try to keep your list down to just a few things. Make sure to list the price and places to buy the stuff. You must make sure he knows where the list is and keep it updated! Include in the list your favorite color, flower, and clothing size you wear (the actual size, not like your drivers license weight.)

Trust me, you need a list! But if you wan’t to wing it here you go. Oh, and as a note, we consider gift cards cheating unless we specifically request them. I don’t care what the commercials say. That isn’t what we want. Clothing is taboo. Stay away from buying clothing for your lady, unless it’s hot lingerie. If you buy hideous clothing your getting hideous love in return!

The first sure-fire gift is a bouquet of flowers that tells us you have planned dinner out complete with babysitting (for those that have kids) and coffee after. An extravagant meal at a fine restaurant will get you major brownie points. Make sure you think through every detail. You may want to consider reserving a room at a fancy hotel.

One thing woman like is pampering! We love to receive exotic lotions, scented bath salts and a high end bath robe. For example, there is organic cotton, all the way to fine Egyptian cotton robes. Find the one that best fits your budget.

None of these ideas sound good to you? You may want to consider candy and coffee. Nearly any woman will melt at the mention of gourmet chocolate and coffee. For a twist you may want to consider Fair Trade chocolates and Fair Trade coffee. Better yet, give her the gift of a coffee club membership to treat her for a full year. Most on-line gourmet coffee retailers offer this option. If you don’t know what she likes, then purchase a few different coffees to let her try. I must point out that you must stick with gourmet coffee (no canned stuff) and boxed gourmet chocolates.

Nearly all women need high quality pens and a planner or journal. It is very frustrating to hunt through you purse and not have a pen. Even more frustrating is to hunt for a pen, then find one that doesn’t work. Whatever you do, make sure you purchase a high quality pen. A good leather bound journal is worth its weight in gold, and can cost you as much too! So make sure you shop around.

Let’s say your woman likes plants, then you can buy her one of her favorites. Flowers like African Violets, and miniature roses both bloom year around and require minimal upkeep. They make a pretty decoration and most importantly will remind her that you are thinking of her. (It is like a bouquet that keeps on growing).

Men, don’t be afraid to ask a women what she wants. Who would know better than her? We just need to know how much you are willing to spend. Any of the above mentioned ideas may be catered to fit almost any women at any point in her life. Women want to be pampered and adored. We want gifts that reflect our style, and not yours. If all else fails, then a framed picture of the two of you will be enough to get you through this holiday.

If you want an easy out you should to check out some of the gourmet gift baskets at Nectar of Life Coffee. They’ve got excellent Fair Trade organic coffee and chocolate!
