If You’re Invited to a Party, What do You do?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

A social blow out you say?  What are you going to bring?  This may not make you the king of the ball, but it’s a something.

Everyone has a clue that you are expected to bring a gift to a house warming party, don’t you?  If you’re like me, you didn’t even consider an offering until you get to the party.  How can this be?

I know it’s difficult to think of everything, but think of the person hosting a party, housewarming, or social even.  One of the most appropriate to make the party giver feel special is to offer a gift.  A lot of people bring wine, or liquor to a social gathering, but depending on the event, it’s not always the best choice. Another way to go would be to bring some high end, gourmet coffee, preferably Fair Trade organic coffee.  Making an exotic fruit drink from locally grown produce is always a great!  If you’re still in thinking about finding the perfect beverage gift, you may want to consider fruit teas.  Almost everyone loves fruit teas.  There are so many flavors out there, that the skies the limit.  Right now, Constant Comment Raspberry is making it’s way into every batch of iced tea that I create.

Obviously, we’ve covered drinks, so lets move on to food.  Chips and salsa are always a crowd pleaser.  You’ve got salty crunch and spicy goodness.  What’s not to like?  Don’t just bring everything in a brown paper bag.  Think artistic presentation!  You can get a colorful, plastic platter, for very little money.  It will make all the difference in the world.  If you ever see a good deal on serving dishes, stock up for later.  It’s always a good idea to give a thank you card with a note saying “please keep the tray.”

If you don’t like the idea of food or drink you may want to consider bringing flowers, a gift basket, or a potted plant.  It is always best to avoid strong drink, pictures of yourselves (unless you are attending a family event), and work related items.  Finally, don’t forget to enclose your card!  You do want credit for your wonderful gift, don’t you?

If you’re still not sure what to bring to an event, then may I suggest that you consider http://www.NectarOfLife.com for a coffee gift basket?  Nectar of Life is a gourmet coffee roaster that specializes in organic coffee.

Gift Baskets Make Great Holiday Gift Solutions

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

The holidays are right around the corner, so it’s a good idea to start planning now. That’s true in particular if you have a lot of people to buy for. It’s also important if you’re like me and have a significant other who’s picky. Over the years I discovered that coffee gift baskets work particularly well for him. He gets a nice assortment of things and I get to give a nice-looking gift that’s affordable. And I don’t even have to leave the house to get it, so it works for both of us. Because of my experience, I’m now a real fan of gift baskets. People have pretty much come to expect that’s what they’ll get from me when I give them a gift. And my friends tell me they look forward to getting them, so that confirms I’m on the right track.

The great thing about giving gift baskets is that there are so many “flavors”. When I want to send gifts to people who just finished moving into new homes, I usually send wine and cheese gift baskets. Those also do double-duty as bon voyage gifts or when someone has finished remodeling a home. Still, there are occasions when the perfect type of gift basket doesn’t leap right out at me, so I do a search by the person’s gender. Entering the search term for “gift baskets for men” or the opposite usually produces a large selection of varied baskets that range from coffee to Kosher foods to cookies. So I usually find something I wouldn’t have thought to look for.

The only problem I have with shopping for gift baskets on the Internet is that normally I can’t get away from the site without buying something for myself! But that’s OK; I’ve gotten some really fun stuff that way. In fact, I’m still enjoying some Napa Valley wines I purchased in a gift basket last month. I guess I’d better finish those bottles soon. I’m going to start my Christmas shopping any day and I’m sure I’ll be buying plenty more for myself!
